Alexis presented a fibroblast-derived ECM-coated fibrous scaffold for wound healing applications! - Welcome REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates, 2015), Roslyn VanSickle! She is from a small town called Clarkston in Washington State, and she is currently attending Washington State University and pursuing a BS in Bioengineering with a minor in Mechanical Engineering. Her project focuses on fabrication and characterization of 3-D Scaffolds for bone tissue engineering.
- Welcome New Undergraduate Researcher, Brittany M. Hewlin! She was born and raised in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. She is currently a Senior Undergraduate Student pursuing a BS in Bioengineering at North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University. She is the President of Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Organization for the upcoming 2015-2016 Academic Year. Her project focuses on electrospinning of polymer for biomedical applications.
- Welcome RET (Research Experience For Teachers), Mark Case (High School Teacher). Mark is currently developing the educational module for high school students. He earned his Eagle Scout in 1978 and National Science Fair finalist in 1982. He earned his Bachelor of Science (1986) and Master of Science (1988) from Southern Illinois University. He worked 20 years as an environmental educator and camp director and the past 8 years as high school science teacher (Southern Guilford High). Past president of North Carolina Science Teacher Association, NCSLA Fellow and Discovery Education Advisory Board. His awards include: Order of Long Leaf Pine, North Carolina Outstanding Earth Science Teacher, Outstanding High School science teacher and much more.

- Congratulation to Bhattarai Lab members! Our team members won Biomaterials Education Challenge organized by The Society for Biomaterials Conference 2015. Our student group (Shekh Rahman, Nava, Zanshe Thopson and Udhab Adhikari) including middle school science teacher (Ms. Cindy Nelson, Kernodle Middle School, Guilford County, NC) won 3rd position with 500 cash prize. “Biomaterials Education Challenge” was a student design competition, in which group of students around the country were asked to develop innovative and practical approaches to biomaterials education. Students were challenged to develop hands-on educational modules for middle school (6th-8th grade) science class. Our education module “Modeling of Biomaterials Research for Middle School Science Students: An Inexpensive and Fun Approach to Hands-on Biomaterials Education” was designed to demonstrate a fundamental biomaterials concept suitable to a middle-school audience with hands-on and easily obtained resources.
